REAL TALK,

REAL SUPPORT,

REAL CHANGE

ReRoute Australia works to counter the growing spread of violence and influence of extremist / anti-social ideologies across Victoria through equipping individuals and communities with the tools, relationships and opportunities needed to build connected and purposeful lives without violence and hate.

ReRoute Australia was established in 2023 in response to increasing concerns regarding the growing complexity of youth violence, grievance-fuelled offending, online radicalisation, anti-social behaviour, and Ideologically Motivated Violent Extremism (IMVE) within Australia, particularly within the state of Victoria. Australian policing and government agencies continue to face increasing complexity in responding to youth violence, gang affiliation, grievance-fuelled offending, and ideologically motivated extremism as traditional enforcement-led responses are often resource-intensive and occur after escalation has already taken place. Existing systems often lack flexible early intervention pathways for individuals displaying concerning behaviours who had not yet reached criminal thresholds but were nevertheless progressing toward violence, extremist affiliation, or entrenched anti-social conduct. ReRoute Australia acts as an independent, community-led early intervention and diversion service intended to complement, rather than replace, traditional law enforcement and justice responses. ReRoute Australia was developed to provide an early-intervention and diversion capability that complemented traditional law enforcement approaches by:

  • Reducing demand on police, courts, and custodial systems

  • Interrupting pathways before criminal thresholds are met

  • Providing structured off-ramps from violence and extremist trajectories

ReRoute Australia aims to counter the growing spread of violence and influence of extremist/anti-social ideologies across Victoria through equipping vulnerable individuals with the tools, relationships and opportunities needed to build connected and purposeful lives without violence and hate. ReRoute Australia aims to achieve this via,

  • Reduce pathways into violence, extremist behaviour and anti-social offending;

  • Providing accessible early intervention support prior to criminal escalation;

  • Supporting disengagement from extremist and violent peer networks;

  • Strengthening protective factors including education, employment, identity, belonging, and community connection;

  • Upskilling existing third party and community service providers through education and training programs

ReRoute Australia offers programs to address the wholistic needs of individuals who are both engaging in or at risk of engaging in extremist and anti-social ideologies. ReRoute Australia provides programs for individuals who are identified as being at risk of engaging in activities, speech or group affiliations that promote the use of violence, hate speech or anti-social behaviour towards community members or groups. Participants may be referred where there are indicators of:

  • Emerging or established violent ideation or behaviour;

  • Association with violent, extremist, or criminal networks;

  • Online radicalisation or fixation on grievance-driven violence;

  • Psychosocial vulnerabilities linked to violence risk.

ReRoute also accepts referral for secondary consultation with Teachers, Youth Workers, justice professionals, community leaders and frontline staff requiring capacity-building or direction/recommendations for supporting or referring an individual who they have identified to be either at risk of, or actively engaging in violent, extremist or anti-social behaviours.
